definition of right of survivorship:

the right of one co-owner of real-property to take possession of another co-owner's share, upon that co-owner's death. The right of survivorship is a key distinction between owning property as JOINT TENANCY, which provides rights of survivorship, and TENANCY IN COMMON, which does not.
